Karla Fortuny brings a diverse portfolio of public affairs, government relations, and strategic communications experience to Capital City Consulting. Before joining the firm, she served as Director of Local Government and Community Affairs at Florida International University, where she engaged with elected officials and community stakeholders to advance institutional priorities. Prior to that, Karla served as Chief of Staff for the City of Miami Commission’s District 1 Office, overseeing a team of over a dozen staff members, shaping policy initiatives, representing the office as spokesperson, and coordinating community events across the district.
Karla has also held roles in Miami’s vibrant sports and event industries, contributing to major initiatives such as Inter Miami CF, the Miami Open, the Memorial Day Air and Sea Show in Miami Beach, and the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee. She began her sports career with an internship with the Florida Panthers Hockey Club and has maintained a strong focus on leveraging sports for community impact. She also has public relations experience through her work with Brustman Carrino Public Relations and Events by Elle.
Karla currently serves as Chairwoman of the Miami-Dade County Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board and is passionate about higher education, civic engagement, economic development, and cultural programming. She holds a Master of Arts degree in public relations from the University of Miami, a Bachelor of Science in communications from Florida International University, and an associate in arts degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from Miami Dade College. She is fluent in English and Spanish, with basic proficiency in Italian.
