Brian May is a Partner at Capital City Consulting and a government affairs strategist specializing in real estate development, land use, and economic development initiatives.
He spent a decade in senior roles in state and local government, including serving as Chief of Staff to Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas and Deputy Chief of Staff to Treasurer Bill Nelson. During this time, he worked on major policy initiatives, including the initial depopulation of Citizens Property Insurance Corporation and a landmark agreement with the Miami Heat for the construction of what is now Kaseya Center.
Brian represents clients across complex real estate and infrastructure projects, securing land-use, zoning, permitting, and transportation approvals from local governments and state agencies. His work includes leading negotiations for the Miami Dolphins to modernize Hard Rock Stadium, helping establish ride-sharing regulations in South Florida, and contributing to the effort to bring the Miami Grand Prix to Miami.
He has also managed major referendum campaigns, including constitutional amendments on background checks and universal pre-K, and most recently led campaigns related to the redevelopment of Watson Island.
In addition to his main focus as a public affairs professional, Brian is an investor in a number of real estate projects. He is a graduate of Furman University with degrees in political science and philosophy and holds a Certificate of Real Estate Investment Analysis from New York University. He has been listed as one of Florida’s most influential lobbyists for over a decade by multiple publications. He also serves on the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee, as Vice Chairman of the South Florida College Football Playoff National Championship Game Committee, and as Chairman of the Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs Council.
