2026 Regular SessionLegislative session is now officially underway! Below are updates regarding today's State of the State address by Gov. Ron DeSantis, as well as remarks from presiding legislative officers. We look forward to a productive session.Governor DeSantis: State of the State
"We are the keepers of the flame of liberty that burned in Philadelphia in July of 1776. We will not allow the flame to go out. We will answer the call. We will go forward with courage. We will take bold action. We will get the job done."
President Albritton's Opening Remarks"Again, this year, the Florida Legislature will pass a balanced budget that holds the line on state spending, pays down debt, cuts taxes, and saves for the future. That’s the strong fiscal-responsibility Floridians expect and deserve, and that’s the single best thing we in the Florida Legislature can do to keep our state on the right track. Affordability is top of mind for many Florida families. Pandemic-era inflation did a number on the national and global economies. The impacts are real, and they are felt by Florida families every single day. We have a strong track record of keeping taxes low, and that will continue. In fact, the vast majority of items needed to raise a family and retire with dignity are already tax-free. From tax-free grocery store food to diapers, clothes, and supplies for young children, key household safety items, to year-round hurricane preparedness, Florida has been laser-focused on affordability and has taken tremendous steps to keep our state affordable.”
Speaker Perez's Opening Remarks"We stand here today ready to write together the second half of our story. And I can’t tell you how many reporters and lobbyists and others in the process have asked me, “What is going to happen this session?” It’s like they want me to give away the ending. Honestly, I don’t know what is going to happen. That’s OK because the journey is the best part. I would not have traded any of the moments we have shared together — the friendships and the fights, the laughter and the tears — I would not have traded this experience just for a little more peace or a little more quiet. I don’t know how our story will end. But what I do know is what we believed back in November 2024 is true: our service here matters, and we will always be stronger together. Others in this process spend a lot of time thinking about and talking about their titles, but in this chamber we really don’t dwell on the word “Representative.” We don’t talk in “I’s” and “me’s” and “my’s”. In the House, it’s always “we.” In crisis, we lean upon each other. In triumph, we celebrate together. In the face of adversity, we work together and we find our way through." |
