Blaise Ingoglia is putting the CFO position in the spotlight while putting local governments on blast

Many people in Florida don’t realize the state government has a Chief Financial Officer. But Blaise Ingoglia is raising awareness while hammering local governments for raising spending levels.

“We were going into this sort of reimagining the role, and also being very, very vocal when it comes to a lot of the issues,” the Spring Hill Republican said.

The Cabinet member visited a Florida TaxWatch gathering in Orlando shortly after stopping in Seminole County to call out $48 million in “excessive, wasteful spending.” It’s part of a series of visits to counties that have increased property rates — many of those run by Democratic officials — to hammer spending decisions.

Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Ingoglia, who stands for election to a full term in 2026. As he gears up for a first statewide run, the former Republican Party of Florida Chair brushed off questions about whether President Donald Trump — or White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles — might recruit a closer ally into the race.

Senate Democrats unveil ‘Affordability Agenda’ plan to curb property insurance costs

Democrats in the Senate just dropped a six-bill package aimed at tackling the state’s property insurance crunch.

The set of proposals is part of a larger “Affordability Agenda” that state Democrats are putting together ahead of the 2026 Session. Each measure targets one or multiple factors contributing to the rising cost of living.

Senate Democratic Leader Lori Berman of Boynton Beach urged Republican lawmakers to “put aside partisanship” and back the bills, which among other things would cap rate hikes, speed claim resolutions and beef up consumer protections.

“To put it simply: We want you to keep more of your hard-earned money and we want you to get what you pay for,” she said in a statement.

League of Women Voters of Palm Beach County hosts workshop on crisis facing girls in Florida

Former Miami-Dade School Board member Lucia Báez-Geller’s bid for House District 106 is off to a strong start.

In Báez-Geller’s first quarter of fundraising, her campaign said she amassed roughly $72,500 and added 12 notable endorsements.

Her camp noted that the 400 or so donations she received since filing for the HD 106 race in mid-July are more than double the total contributions Miami Beach Republican Rep. Fabián Basabe, the district’s incumbent, took in all last cycle.

“I am humbled by (this) support,” Báez-Geller, a Democrat, said in a statement. “My campaigns have always been grassroots, and our message of affordability and the property insurance crisis is clearly resonating.”

Trump endorses Uthmeier for Florida attorney general, signals strong support for 2026 election

President Donald Trump on Wednesday backed Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier's bid to keep the state Cabinet post in the 2026 election.

In an online post, Trump called Uthmeier "an American First Warrior" and "the man behind Alligator Alcatraz," referring to an immigrant-detention center in the Everglades.

"In his next term, James will continue to work tirelessly to ensure law and order, uphold our constitutional rights, and protect our always under siege Second Amendment," Trump wrote.

Uthmeier was appointed attorney general in February, after DeSantis elevated former Attorney General Ashley Moody to the U.S. Senate. Moody replaced former U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, who was appointed by Trump as secretary of state.

Uthmeier previously served as DeSantis's chief of staff.
