Rick Scott recently introduced legislation targeting employers who sponsor Permanent Resident Cards, aka Green Cards, for foreign workers. The American Hiring Transparency Act aims to “incentivize hiring skilled American workers over cheap, foreign labor” by imposing a $10,000 fee on businesses that outsource labor through the Application for Permanent Employment Certification. “A good job is the cornerstone of the American dream, and federal policies should always put American workers first. That’s why I’m introducing this bill,” Sen. Scott affirmed. The bill also cracks down on loopholes present in the Program Electronic Review Management (PERM) labor certification system. According to the Department of Labor (DOL), the program allows employers to outsource foreign labor once the agency certifies to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that there aren’t “sufficient U.S. workers able, willing, qualified and available to accept the job opportunity in the area of intended employment.” ‘He has stepped up to the plate’: Florida Sheriffs Association backs James Uthmeier for Attorney GeneralThe Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) is endorsing Attorney General James Uthmeier in his bid to earn a full term in the post. The organization representing Florida’s 67 Sheriffs came out in favor of Uthmeier this week. Uthmeier faces no competition in the Aug. 18 Republican Primary and advances directly to the Nov. 3 General Election against Democrat José Javier Rodríguez, who also has no Primary opponent. While he is the incumbent, Uthmeier has never been formally elected to public office. He was previously the Chief of Staff for Gov. Ron DeSantis. Uthmeier was appointed to the Attorney General position by DeSantis in early 2025, after his predecessor, Ashley Moody, was tapped to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Marco Rubio. President Donald Trump selected Rubio to serve as U.S. Secretary of State. One side features images of Trump and Gruters together and identifies her as the “Trump endorsed” candidate for Congress to succeed retiring U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan.
