Here are the people Trump has picked for key positions so far

President-elect Donald Trump is filling key posts in his second administration, and it’s shaping up much differently than his first. He’s prioritizing loyalists for top jobs.

Trump was bruised and hampered by internal squabbles during his initial term in office. Now he appears focused on remaking the federal government in his own image. Some of his choices could face difficult confirmation battles even with Republicans in control of the U.S. Senate.

Here’s a look at whom he has selected so far. Trump named Florida Sen. Marco Rubio to be secretary of state, making the critic-turned-ally his choice for top diplomat.

Rubio, 53, is a noted hawk on China, Cuba and Iran, and was a finalist to be Trump’s running mate on the Republican ticket last summer. Rubio is the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Gov. DeSantis: Work to set Special Elections will begin ‘immediately’ as Matt Gaetz, Mike Waltz move to Donald Trump admin

Florida’s Governor hasn’t always rushed to set up Special Elections, but on Thursday, he is saying two Congressional seats will be filled with all possible speed. “I’ve instructed Secretary of State Cord Byrd to formulate and announce a schedule for the upcoming special elections immediately,” posted Gov. Ron DeSantis to the X social media platform.

Byrd says the Department of State “will have this schedule posted soon” and is “working to ensure these special elections are conducted as soon as possible.”

The seats in question in Florida’s 1st and 6th Congressional Districts were held, respectively, by Matt Gaetz, who will need Senate confirmation to become Attorney General, and Mike Waltz, who will advise President-elect Donald Trump on national security.

DeSantis is congratulating the Congress members in question, as well as U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, who will be Secretary of State pending Senate confirmation. He has yet to congratulate Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, an architect of his 2018 election with whom DeSantis split soon thereafter.

With Matt Gaetz tapped for AG, who could fill his congressional seat?

With U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz tapped by President-elect Donald Trump to be Attorney General, the jockeying has already begun to fill a vacancy in Gaetz’s congressional district.

Florida’s 1st Congressional District, located in the Panhandle and anchored by Pensacola, is one of the state’s most conservative districts. Gaetz was elected to the seat in 2016, winning more than 69% of the vote. This year, he secured re-election with 66% of the vote.

That means a Republican is all but guaranteed to hold the seat. Insiders familiar with the district also point out that it’s a very pro-Trump district, meaning anyone considering throwing their hat in the ring who was a Gov. Ron DeSantis supporter in the GOP Presidential Primary may find themselves persona non grata.

Still, there are a number of options for replacements. Florida Politics spoke with political insiders — all of whom asked not to be quoted as the situation continues to unfold — to get an idea of whose name might stick, and whose chances might whither.

Gov. DeSantis, Ashley Moody pursue legal remedies after FEMA snubbed Donald Trump supporters

The federal government may have avoided people in the wake of Hurricane Milton. But they can’t avoid the pursuit of justice from state officials.

Attorney General Ashley Moody has the backing of the Governor as she presses the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on political bias against Donald Trump supporters in post-storm response to the Lake Placid area. The Highlands County region saw 70% of voters back the President-elect.

“Hurricane season is not over, and the federal agency in charge of emergency response is embroiled in scandal — caught withholding aid from storm victims in Florida who support President Trump,” Moody said.

“I am taking swift legal action to find out how far this political discrimination reaches and to make sure all Americans who fall victim to devastating storms are served, regardless of their political affiliation.” The complaint was filed Wednesday in the Southern District of Florida.
